Romeo and Juliet Essay
Please write on one of the following thesis points:
1. Throughout Romeo and Juliet the characters in the play have a FUNCTION and an IDENTITY. Focus your paper on one (or two) characters and prove that the character you chose acted outside of his or her identity and function, therefore aiding in the play's tragic ending.
2. In Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet "time" is a major issue. Sometimes "time" is EXPANDED, while other times "time" is COMPRESSED. In your paper, please demonstrate how time is compressed when Romeo and Juliet are together, while time is expanded when the two lovers are apart. In addition, please show other examples of time expansion and compression throughout the play.
Paper layout:
Papers must be typed. Font must be no larger than 12pt. and no smaller than 10pt. Please type your name in the top right corner.
The introductory paragraph MUST contain the author's name and the title of the work. In addition, the introductory paragraph must contain background information on the play and a clearly defined thesis statement.
The ensuing paragraphs must contain a topic sentence and a minium of THREE supporting quotes. Remember: You must use parathentical documentation.
Example of parathentical documentation:
There are many examples of foreshadowing the Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. An example os foreshadowing is seen when Juliet says, "If he be married, / My grave is like to be my wedding bed" (Shakespeare 1.5 136-137).
You MUST incluse the author's last name, the act, the scene and the lines you are quoting. In addition, you MUST use a diagonal to show where each new line of verse begins. When typing your paper, please SPACE, type the diagonal and then SPACE again before you continue citing the text.
Lastly, your paper MUST contain a conclusion. You should NOT quote in your introductory paragraph OR in your conclusion.
