STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
FOR
ENGLISH I HONORS/WORLD HISTORY HONORS
(January 2003)
While The CAVE's program is presented in an integrated format, it is
to be understood that students are responsible for all assignments in both
courses and will receive separate, final grades in both English I Honors
and World History Honors.
| 1. |
CLASS ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION: |
|
Students will be expected to be ontime
and attend all classes, and participation in all activities is expected.
All work missed during unexcused absences will receive
zero credit.
Each student is responsible for all material presented
in class, including announcements and class procedures, and must make arrangements
for retrieving this information when absent.
It is highly recommended that students subscribe
to The CAVEs email list service. This service is open to all of The
CAVEs current ninth grade students. Please note that the list is
for discussion of information relating to The CAVEs courses only.
Inappropriate use of the email list will result in immediate removal from
the list, parental notification, and possible referral to Blanche Ely High
Schools administration for further disciplinary action.
|
| 2. |
REQUIRED MATERIALS: |
|
Each student must have the following materials in class
daily:
|
|
A. white, lined, loose-leaf paper,
B. black/blue pens (two minimum),
C. Number 2 lead pencils (two minimum),
D. notebook(s), and
E. textbooks (as required).

the student's notebook will be securely fastened into the notebook, maintained
in chronological order and written in ink.
|
| 3. |
STUDENT WORK: |
|
All work is due on the specified date at the beginning
of the class period. No assignment will be accepted after that date and
will be recorded as zero credit.
|
| 4. |
ESSAYS AND TESTS |
|
If a student is absent, he or she will make arrangements
to complete missing work on the first day of his or her return. All tests
and essays will be announced at least three class days in advance, and
students shall be prepared to complete them on
time.
|
| 5. |
RENAISSANCE FAIRE: |
|
Each student will create and play a character in
the Renaissance Faire. Portrayal of this character will include, but not
be limited to, speaking and writing the proper language, preparing a suitable
costume and appropriate props as well as constructing
a setting within which the character will exist. Participation in the faire
will constitute 80% of the students final exam grade for both courses.
A six to ten page, typed, MLA-formatted research
paper will accompany the Renaissance Faire project and constitute 20% of
the student's grade for the marking period. The student must submit
two copies of the paper in order to receive credit in both English
and history.
IMPORTANT: All projects are to be fully assembled
in The CAVE by 6:00 PM on the announced due date. One half of the class
will be due on the Tuesday before the Faire and the other half of the class
will be due on the Wednesday before the Faire. Any student whose completed
project is not in the classroom by the aforementioned time will receive
a failing grade for the project. The student should still participate in
the Faire so long as he or she is in full costume and has his or her appropriate
props.

ENGLISH I STANDARDS.
Course Description and Goals: This course introduces students to the
litrature of ancient Greece, early modern English, Elizabethan English and
modern English. The primary goal is to align World History and English,
so students can better understand the world in which they live. As communication
is vital to success in the 21st century. The secondary goal of the course
is to build both grammar and vocabulary skills. Lastly, students will learn
the skills necessary to succeed on both the FCAT and Florida Writes.

must see the teacher after class to hand in work or obtain make-up work.
Obtaining make-up work is the responsibility of the student. The vocabulary
words for the term are posted on the class website (thecaveonline.com).
Students are required to have a 3-ring binder, paper, two #2 pencils, two
pens and a journal (the journal may be a spiral notebook). Students will
