The first thing that one notices uponentering old town is that here, all the trees have already dropped their leaves and a darkness has descended over everything.

The oldest family living in Old Town are the Grimsleys. Mr. Grimsley claims he and his wife have lifed there since 1910. Funny, their children never seem tohave gone to school in Hauntsville. But then they do look a little strange. they seem to have an interesting house guest floating about the yard.

I really do like the lawn statues they have placed along the walkway---very Gothic!

I think that the Grimsley's garden needs to get to work. Doesn't look like he has moved in quite a while.

Next door to the Grimsleys is the old Gravely Estate house. The place has been abandoned for years. Old man Gravely always used to hang out onhis walkway to wave to those who passed by, But I haven't seen him in years.

Wait--I think I see Mr. Gravely coming down the walk now!

Up the hill and behind the Grimsley and Gravely homes stand the old cemetery. If you like old tombstone etching, there are some really old headstones in that grave yard.

Now I know why the old cemetery has never filled up. I see the caretaker is removing some of the old bones.

Next to the old cemetery is the caretaker's home. He does seem to have taken on the spirit of the season with his window decorations.

The town sponsored haywagon ride comes to thisold part of twon. The children claim they never get to see and real witches. However, I think the the Wilson boys may have a different tale to tell.

Old Lady Tabatha lives at the end of Front Street. She is said to dabble on herbalistic medicine and if all else fails she claims to have a cure for most anything that ails you. I wonder what ingredients she uses in her potions?

There is an old stone path that leads to the wooded area behind Tabatha's house. Every fall this area seems to closed off. You can hear all sorts of strange sounds coming from the woods at night---I wonder what goes on back there.

Last month a missionary came to visit All Souls Church in Hauntsville. He checked into the Timbers Hotel but he never made it to the church for his meeting. Wonder whathappened to him?

In a clearing in the woods is the area known as Witch Alley. It is said that there, onHalloween night the witches gather to celebrate their black arts. Some say the Wizard Merlin drops in for yearly visits.

That old tree behind Tabatha's house does look sorta like a witch, wonder if that is how all those rumers about witches in the area came to be?

At the top of the hill by the west end of Witch Alley stands the remaind of Warlock Castle. Old residents of Hauntsville like to tell stories about the Wizard Shardowlock who used to live in the old building. He was supposed to have pet dragons lving with him. But I'm sure all that is just tales to frighten children.

That is certainly quite a pair of "Pets" that guard the castle.

On dark night people say you can still see "Death" (the image in the old Albrect Durer painting) riding his pale (white) horse ashe comes to gather his victims. But surely that is just an old fable, and not real.

This completes our trip to Hauntsville 2010. I hope you have enjoyed your visit and will make plans to come back next year to see what changes have taken place. There is always something new in Hauntsville. Thank you for visiting.
