This structure is made from 6 sheets of styrofoam. Each sheet was approximately 3 feet by 2 feet and about 1 inch thick. The sheets were fastened together by running duct tape along each seam on the back side of the project. The building was then cut out (the black you see is only a background and is not part of the building) using a fine tooth saw. The saw should have at least 24 teeth per inch. You cannot cut styrofoam with a razor blade knife, so do not try. Some students have had luck using an electric knife. A yardstick and a magic marker (wide tip) was used to draw the lines which represent boards. A second dark brown marker and the yardstick was used to outline the doors and the edge of the building. The dark brown coloring of the doors was added using a soft paint brush. The roof shingles were hand drawn and then outlined and painted in the same manner as the doors.

WARNING: Painting styrofoam can be tricky. Applying some paints to styrofoam will cause it to dissolve right in front of your eyes!! Therefore, test your paint on scrap pieces BEFORE applying it to the finished product.
